Beautiful collection of Tara thangkas.

Tara, or Dolma in Tibetan, is a female Bodhisattva.

Bodhisattvas are often considered metaphoric for Buddhist virtues.

The most widely known Taras are: Green Tara, known for the activity of compassion and protection; and White Tara, also known for compassion, long life, healing and serenity.

However there are also Red Taras, the fierce aspect associated with magnetizing all good things; Black Tara, associated with power; Yellow Tara, associated with wealth and prosperity; Blue Tara, associated with transmutation of anger and Cittamani Tara.

Taras can often be painted in groups of 8 or 21. The 8 manifestations of green tara represent the overcoming of 8 fears.
