INFORMATION:
Images of manjusri often hang in schools or other centres of learning.
Manjushri, is the bodhisattva of keen awareness or inherent wisdom in Buddhism. His tibetan name is jampelyang.
A disciple of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni, he represents wisdom, intelligence and realisation, and is one of the most popular Bodhisattvas. In Tibetan Buddhism he sometimes is depicted in a trinity with Avalokiteshvara and Vajrapani, representing the body, speech and mind of the enlightened buddha. His mantra is repeated by monks and school children alike to attune to their studies. Manjusri has many stories attributed to him, it is said that he drained the kathmandu valley of nepal in order for it to habitable and for the dharma to flourish there. Wisdom is only beneficial if applied with compassion, actions motivated by greed, hatred or jealously are rooted in ignorant thoughts, manjusri reminds us to destroy misleading conceptions that we may hold and seek the truth.
